The former Scotland defender who had spells at Aberdeen, Rangers and Leeds is creating waves in India as manager of Real Kashmir FC, who against all the odds won the second division title in his first season in charge. The events of yesterday’s Cup final will be felt for a very long time. The petulant behaviour of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga who refused his managers orders to be substituted shows how the power balance has well and truly moved to the players. We have seen other examples in recent years where the player has won in a dispute between himself and the manager but this latest example drills home exactly how much power the players now have. Kepa disrespected his manager and his teammates with his petulant act and should be fined heavily and sold by the club but likely won’t given their upcoming transfer ban. Instead Sarri will be axed, a new manager appointed and the whole episode swept under the ever bulging carpet after the new boss has a “heart to heart” with the Spanish keeper.
